I got the information from The United States Copyright Office by searching on Movies and Serials. They state that films made in (1920) to (1939) would need a renewal date in 1951.

I will look at the Candlsticks film as the IMDB says:

Male Polish secret agent and female Russian secret police spy smuggle messages to Petersburg in candlesticks... See full summary »

Director: George Fitzmaurice
Writers: Baroness Emmuska Orczy (book), Harold Goldman, and 1 more credit »
Stars: William Powell, Luise Rainer and Robert Young

They are stating this film has fallen into the Public Domain. When they ask for the rights it is usually in the Public Domain. I will check your attachment and thank you so much for helping me.

Will let you know what the film's copyright and certificate says.

Robert Young is remembered for his TV work but he worked with the best! Hepburn, and Stanwyck to name a few.

Thanks again!

Ellen

The film I have says (1937) as the Copyright date. I will try to get a screen shot of the certificate of the film.

Will also check the Copyright Database for a renewal of the film. I see yours but why does the film still have (1937) as the copyright date?

Puzzled as usual!

Thanks!

Ellen
